Q: What’s the solution for the U.S. regarding immigration?
A: America is the greatest success story of immigrants from around the world learning to live and work together. By striving for advantages built on education, hard work, a belief in God, and the inspiration to dream as big as one dares to dream, America’s push forward is still felt as an immigrant haven. Increasingly, however, America needs to face its future by accepting its past: our earliest riches were built on the backs of slaves. While ‘freedom’ was our calling, it was not a gift given ‘freely’ to all. We need to reach deep into our hearts and take a good long look at those in our history’s melting pot who built the railroads, farmlands and factories. Tens of thousands were the faces of men, women, and children of all colors, without status, who had no where else to turn. They owned nothing and feared starvation, daily. Taking advantage of those desperate souls is also a component of our living legacy. Begin seeing and feeling America’s future as a land of opportunity for all based upon their work ethic as seen through the eyes of God. For in the event of a cataclysmic event who will The Lord save? Those who take advantage of the poor? Or those who lovingly tend the land and thank God for their families, friends and food? Upon us now is the golden opportunity Jesus spoke about so often - love thy neighbor as thyself. Believe in Jesus seeing the hearts of those who know and understand that the grace and opportunity they have (to be born of privilege) has come from those who stood in hot, dry, dusty fields picking cotton, tobacco and corn, and pitching hay from wagons weary with sweat. Pray for your family’s heart to believe in America’s future as fortunate enough to have Latinos from all countries – Mexico and south – to help guide us back to our glory as givers and not just takers.
Our friends in Mexico are waiting in the wings to help the U.S. if ever terrorists were to come again without warning. Let us never turn our backs on them. Let us live in the light of love, and love our neighbors as we do ourselves.
Believe and be saved,
Heal others through love. Heal yourself through that love.
